Going underground
April 7, 2006
I was covering a story today that took me into a mine in Harlan County today. It was a fun job, but on the ride down, the ceiling was whizzing by only a few inches above my head
R.O.C.K. in Indy
April 3, 2006

John Mellencamp played a free concert in downtown Indianapolis at the War Memorial. It was an awesome scene as management made arrangements for me to go up to a “snipers” position on a building across the street. It was one of those situations where you don’t realize how big a crowd is until you can get an overhead view.

I covered the Beaux Arts Ball this evening, um, last night, I suppose. I chose a tame image for the blog. There were other, more fun photos but I thought I would let editors decide if we show them. Check out next Sunday’s paper for more coverage.

Waghdan’s Healing Journey
April 1, 2006
Waghdan is recovering from her skin graft surgery, I’m happy to report. Not as fast as she and her grandmother would like, I’m sure. They are both eager to go home to Iraq and their family. It has been difficult for them, not only because of Waghdan’s physical challenges, but also because of the cultural differences. I can’t imagine what it has been like for them to be unable to communicate with others freely and to be in constant puzzlement over our foreign customs and beliefs.
Our next installment of their story will be published in Sunday’s paper and on our website. What is new this time is my multimedia show called “Waghdan’s Healing Journey”. You can see it at www.heraldleaderphoto.com.
