Window Shopping in Oxford

January 6, 2007

As I’m waiting for the UK vs. Ole Miss basketball game to begin, I thought I’d share some old relics I found in two storefronts in downtown Oxford, Mississippi. In the window of a video rental shop called “As Seen on TV”, some really old TV sets were on display. OK, a few of you might remember the 1950s sets called RCA New Vista and the Silvertone. The clerk had no idea how they got there, but then, the personel turnover at the store might be somewhat frequent.

Then, I found an old Associated Press new wire printer in the storefront of a building housing the LafaShopper News, and The Oxford Eagle. Quite a museum piece in this computer age.

By the way, Ole Miss hangs banners in their arena if they even made it to the NCAA tournament. It’s gotta make you proud of those Final Four and tournament championship banners in Rupp. And the Ole Miss Rebel band, quite good incidentally, plays Billy Idol’s “Rebel Yell”. Ok, that’s a little innovative at least. Where do you get sheet music for band instruments for THAT song?070106oxfordadp163
