Norma Mulligan helps decades of J.R. Ewan students

May 17, 2008

When J.R. Ewan Elementary School closes its doors on May 30, 2008, the community will miss the daily smiles and waves from Norma Mulligan. Norma, a crossing guard at the corner of Menifee Dr. and Kingswood Dr., has been helping children safely cross the road in front of the school for more than 40 years. Video by Jenn Ackerman

I have fond memories of Kenwick School on Sherman ave, having gone there for five years. I lived on Sherman Ave. only three houses from the school. I entered Julia Ewan on Henry Clay, Blvd. the first year it was built. I was in the sixth grade. Mr. & Mrs. Hicks lived two houses down from where I lived on Sherman Ave. Mr. Hicks had a beautiful rose garden and he always took his beautiful roses to the teachers at the school. Each day a count was taken for milk for that days lunch, you had a choice of plain or chocolate it was 2 cents at that time! It is sad to see the closing of this school. Carolyn
