Chariots of ire?

Parking violators in downtown Lexington may find unwelcome citations on their windshields beginning this week. Three outriders, Mike Pope, Michael Lancaster and Carlton Chenault, official enforcement officers for Lexpark, began issuing tickets while riding on their three-wheeled electric chariots for the first time on Tuesday. For the first three months, first-time offenders will receive warning tickets. The goal of Lexpark, a parking enforcement program of the Lexington & Fayette County Parking Authority, is to increase the turnover of parking spaces for downtown visitors, said Gary Means, executive director of the parking authority.

Isn’t it illegal for them to ride these things on the sidewalk?
The law allows the police to ride bicycles, horses and segways on sidewalks in the performance of their duties, but these are not police nor any of those three allowed vehicles.
And why aren’t they wearing helmets?
In the video I was questioning how they were allowed to issue parking violations without any proper identification labeling them as agents of the city. It seemed to me as if a bunch of private citizens decided to take parking laws into their own hands. The tickets they write are official city fines but the workers writing them, or the vehicles they ride in, have no proof they are associated in any way with the city.
I contacted the Lexpark office and they claim that badges will eventually be distributed to the employees but without a definitive date.
Are you serious!? This is what our tax money is going towards?? WOW
maybe they will get a new reality show on A & E…….
I find it very suspicious that the new “parking crackdown” happens to coincide with the Lexington-Fayette County Government signing a new contract for the management of their parking operations. Perhaps a little mutual back scratching going on?
