World’s Largest Water Balloon Fight (Almost)

August 24, 2008 by Pablo Alcala

The Christian Student Fellowship at the University of Kentucky organized a water balloon fight to break the Guinness World Record. The balloon fight took place at the Johnson Center Field on campus shortly after midnight, Saturday night. An arsenal of 58,000 balloons had more than Microsoft’s 51,000; but fell short of the record for most participants by 115.

We counted 58, 236 balloons there, and only 2,744 people. We were so close. I counted 2,754 waivers (with three other people), so I was off. We needed just 110 more people! Amazing how 58,000+ balloons can disappear in about three minutes.

That is great! Don’t worry Rice University will have the world record come march, we’ve probably have had for awhile, but never thought to contact anyone about. And another note, every year our annual event has about 150,000-200,000 water balloons depending on how early we start filling.

It was awesome! Too bad we were short 110 people….
