Mountain Day Sunrise

Click here to purchase a photo

The 133rd annual Berea College Mountain Day began with a traditional pre-dawn hike up Indian Fort Mountain for a sunrise celebration at the East Pinnacle. As the sun rose above the Madison County mountains, the Berea College Concert Choir performed several songs followed by a performance by the Berea College Country Dancers. The tradition, which started in 1875, allows students a day off from classes and labor to experience a day of outdoor fun. Photographs by Charles Bertram | Staff

    Greetings:

As someone who was born and raised in Virginia but has spent a lot of time living in Kentucky, I climbed Indian Fort Mountain many, many times between the mid~1970’s and mid~1980’s. I am VERY GLAD I happened to come across this 133rd Berea College Mountain Day watching the Sunrise over the Pinnacles. As a 1980 EKU grad and 1982 UK grad I spent quite a bit of time in Berea. I lived in Berea and drove back and forth to both EKU and UK during a couple of my wonderful years in the beautiful Commonwealth.
