Floorcam outtake v.1

January 19, 2006

Ever wonder how close we get to the action at a UK basketball game? Here is an outtake from my floorcam which was sitting at my feet during the Alabama game. That would be Randolph Morris’ shoeless foot after a first half break to the basket. Check below to see what the floorcam is supposed to get.

Adobe announces Lightroom, competition for Aperture

January 9, 2006

Read MacWorld’s first look at Adobe’s new Lightroom image management software, billed as “the efficient new way for professional phtographers to import, select, develop, and showcase large volumes of digital images.”

MacWorld’s review of Aperture is here and an interesting Aperture thread on Sportsshooter.com here.

None of the Herald-Leader photographers have used either of these programs yet. Perhaps we can offer our own review when we do.

Multimedia Debut

December 23, 2005

Jwtitle

This month we had a crash course on how to piece together a multimedia show, accompanied by all the joy and frustration that comes with learning a new skill. Choosing my favorite pictures and music was the easy part. Feeling my way through the new software was somewhat cumbersome, only because I had never used GarageBand or Soundslides before. The really frustrating part was finding out at the last minute that copyright laws do not allow us to use up to 30 seconds of a song like we had originally thought. So I trashed my carefully crafted masterpiece and went back to the drawing board, or in this case, my computer. In record time I meticulously wove snippets of guitar and piano music into a blanket of sound to soften my voice and help the photos flow better. I think it turned out pretty good for a first attempt and I promise next time will be even better.

Mark talks Polaroid’s at UK

December 2, 2005

Rondoblog

I will be giving a talk at the UK Art museum in the Singletary Center on Wednesday Dec. 7 at noon. The presentation is free and I will be showing some of the work I am doing with Polaroid 55 film through an old Crown Graphic 4×5 camera. Basically showing a bunch of portraits and trying to answer some questions if I can!

Hope to see you there.

Mark
