For the second straight year, Actors Guild of Lexington is presenting Shakespeare at Equus Run Vineyards, advancing the idea that Shakespeare and wine are two great things that go great together. This year, patrons have been taking in Anthony R. Haigh’s production of “The Merry Wives of Windsor.” We visited on June 21, the first night of summer, to take in the play and the atmosphere at the Midway vineyard. Caring About The Kentucky River

Lanny Evans and Merrill Combs care about the river. So this year for the 17th Annual Kentucky River Clean Up, they rounded up crews from the Kentucky Department of Highways to help them remove large items from the riverbanks in Boonesborough State Park like boats, washing machines and toilets that people had dumped there years ago. Evans said planning the project took about two years of convincing others it need to be done, so she was in high spirits on Saturday morning. by Emily Spence | Staff

The Garrard County Stockyards have been closed for almost a year now. The building has been demolished and all that remains is rubble and a single remnant of an era gone forever. Garey Farm

After 18 years, Carla and David Garey gave up raising tobacco in 2004 and turned their full time attention to raising vegetables and meat to sell at Lexington Farmers Market. Today on their 60 acre farm in Bourbon County, the Garey family raise 190 different kinds of vegetables and a flock of 450 chickens and turkeys. Photos by Charles Bertram
