Nearly 4,000 participants will portray Union and Confederate troops in three battles Saturday and Sunday at the Perryville Battlefield
State Historic Site about 10 miles west of Danville in Boyle County.

On the weekend of Oct. 7, 1862, a fierce battle there finalized Confederate General Braxton Bragg's invasion of Kentucky and his troops threatened to take the entire state.

An eventual retreat by Bragg's forces left more than 7,500 Union and Confederate soldiers dead in Kentucky's biggest civil war battle.
