24 HOURS AT UK CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL

The hallways at Kentucky Children's Hospital are colorfully painted, and
the walls are decorated with kids' art, some made by former patients. There's a playroom and a library. There's a clattering, clanging mobile
sculpture that fascinates the children. In many ways, it's a bright, fun place.

But it's also a place of fear and hope and joy - and every emotion in
between. Though most youngsters get better and go home, others continue to struggle for days or weeks. Reporter Jim Warren and photographer Charles Bertram recently spent 24 hours exploring the hospital with near-full access.
