Frank Anderson, a 42-year veteran of the Herald-Leader, is a native of West Virginia who has long considered Kentucky his home.
Frank began working at the newspaper while still in high school. He was a photo lab technician < processing film, filling print orders, whatever needed to be done.
He left the Herald-Leader to attend Morehead State University, and then worked for the University of Kentucky. But he soon returned to the newspaper.
Frank said he still considers any assignment to be a challenge. His favorite subjects are usually tied to sports or children (that's the grandfather in him).
His top favorite is thoroughbred racing, and that paid off in a major way when he caught medics and track employees trying to protect and injured jockey from an approaching horse. The quick-thinking series of photos earned Frank the 2003 Eclipse Award for Photography from the National Thoroughbred Racing Association.
Frank has a daughter, Jennifer, a son, Brian, and two grandchildren. He lives in Versailles with his wife, Ruth. When he's not taking photographs, he enjoys fishing and spending time with his wife and grandchildren.
Frank retired from the Herald-Leader on Dec. 29, 2006, after 42 years as a staff photographer.
